Google Classroom kept my classes running last year. My students and I switched from remote learning to in-person learning and back again, but Google Classroom was the constant link. I knew it would play a role in my classroom again this year, but now that I’ve learned about BookWidgets, Google Classroom might take center stage.

Introducing BookWidgets

At its core, BookWidgets is a content creation tool. It allows teachers to create 40 different types of interactive activities and assessments and assign them to their Google Classes. What sets BookWidgets apart is that you can do all of that without ever having to visit another site. BookWidgets is a Google Chrome Extension that works right in your Google Classroom. Every feature (including an extensive image library) is already included.

Keep reading to see four ways you could use BookWidgets to upgrade your Google Classroom this year:

1. Assign engaging activities to students

BookWidgets has an extensive library of fun, interactive activities to choose from! My favorite might be the split worksheet because of its ability to add text, or even audio, video, or other website activities on the opposite side of the already super-customizable worksheet. Each activity can be customized with images to make them even more engaging. Their assessments include 30 different types of questions, ensuring you’ll be able to find the right one for your subject and grade level. In addition, it allows you to share the activities and assessments you create with other teachers.

2. Create automatically graded worksheets

Not only will BookWidgets help you create activities guaranteed to motivate your students—it will grade them too! While this is impressive, what I like even more is the data BookWidgets provides about student performance. A teacher can easily see which questions stumped the most students, which students are struggling, and in what areas. This makes planning for remediation and reteaching so much easier.

3. Give constructive feedback on student work

I’m an English teacher, so feedback is my jam. If an app doesn’t let me respond to student work quickly and easily, I won’t use it. Luckily, BookWidgets understands teachers and has made leaving feedback super easy. You add a comment to an individual question or about an assessment as a whole. Additionally, you can allow students to revise their responses based on your notes.

4. Follow student progress in real-time

BookWidgets also offers a way to follow along with students in real-time! You can use this to help struggling students or ask a question to the entire class for instant feedback. Easily identify students who are finishing early and might need a greater challenge. Keep track of who seems to be struggling with certain questions and make a note to provide them with additional instruction at a later time. It really gives teachers a powerful way to ensure we are differentiating for each student. Click here to learn more about this feature.
