TikTok Teachers Are Sharing the Sad Reality of Students Destroying Classrooms

These instances are traumatic and often dangerous for the rest of the class. What happened to their rights to safety and an education?

Though the “Devious Licks” TikTok challenge of last year certainly got a lot of attention for the mayhem it unleashed on schools, it definitely wasn’t the end of students destroying school property. Teachers on TikTok are unfortunately still reporting their classrooms are getting trashed by students who are angry, bored, suffer from mental health issues, or a combination of all three.

The bottom line echoed by many teachers about this issue is that no matter how much they empathize with the student or the family, it doesn’t change the fact that these instances are traumatic and often dangerous for the rest of the class.

If one thing is clear from these videos, it’s that schools need to step up. As @educationboss describes in the video above, schools have the funding to adequately staff schools—it’s a matter of how they’re using that money.

I really hope we’ll see these videos in the history hologram textbooks of the future in a chapter called “2022: The Final Straw Before the Country Re-prioritized Its Values to Support Schools and Teachers.” We can dream, can’t we?
