So many of us at WeAreTeachers are still teaching or are former teachers. We live and breathe all things education. This means that our definition of fun often includes learning new teaching strategies, nerding out on the latest education research, and stalking education organizations’ websites to see when our favorite education writers are speaking. Here are 5 awesome free or low-cost teacher events for February 2021.
AWEsome Wellbeing Virtual Educator Retreat
February 6th
Cost: $53.00
We’re pretty exhausted. After all, this school year has pushed us all to the brink! That’s why anything self-care related is at the top of our priority list this month. We are so excited about this one-day online retreat for teachers. On the agenda? Restorative yoga, journaling, and meditation. Those papers you need to grade can wait. Fill your own cup!

Class Hacks Virtual Educator Book Club
February 16th, 6:30 CST
Cost: Free!
If you love books and want to meet up with other teachers who do too, then you have to come to this virtual book club. This month’s pic: The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. It’s one of the best books I’ve read this past year. We especially love that the discussion questions are put out before the meeting so we can take notes and find evidence in the text! (Yes. An English teacher is writing this!).
Learning and the Brain Virtual Conference: The Science of Teaching During a Pandemic
February 20th
Cost: $219.00
Okay, so a big reason this made the list for us is that Dr. Douglas Fisher, author of The Distance Learning Playbook, is speaking (that book has been a lifesaver this year!). We can’t wait to hear him. And yes, there will be a lot of research shared at this event, but also a ton of actionable strategies for making online and hybrid learning more fun and engaging for our kids. The session we are most excited about is Assessing Minds Online: Using Technology, Feedback, and Formative Assessment.
ASCD Virtual Symposium: Equity in Action
February 24th
Cost: $49.00
We’re so excited for this one because it’s all about making equity more than just another initiative at our schools (yes, please!). Also, Kimberely Bryant, the Founder and CEO of Black Girls Code, is speaking. The two sessions that are on our radar: I Am More Than What You See: Strategies for Really Getting to Know Me and Advancing Equity in the Midst of Multiple Crisis. We love strategies because we can use them in our classrooms right away, and we need all the help we can get with pandemic teaching!
Mindfulness in Me: Mindful Teachers Virtual Class
February 24th, 4:00-4:30 EST
Cost: Free!
If you are short on time and you don’t want to spend any money, this one’s for you. In this virtual session, just for teachers, you will learn meditations and in-the-moment-skills to help you re-center and stay calm during stressful moments. We have a feeling everyone is going to feel a lot better after! Plus, you can take what you learned back to your students.
Check back next month to see the five events we are adding to our calendars in March!
