The Wondrous Tale of Lavender Wolfe by Karen Foxlee
Lavender grew up picking pockets on the wharves in this new middle grade book set in 1719. When her mother abandons her, she sets sail for new adventures on a magical but cursed pirate ship. Lavender soon discovers magical talents of her own that just might help the crew break the curse at last.

Murder in Antarctica? Sign us up! This new middle grade read takes mystery to the farthest ends of the Darth, where 12-year-old Nova’s mother works as a penguin researcher (though Nova wishes they could both just stay at home). When her mother’s assistant dies mysteriously, Nova has to put aside her personal feelings to prove her mother is innocent, and maybe even save her research grant in the process.
In this fascinating and heartbreaking new historical novel, Cherokee author Broyles brings the Trail of Tears to life through the eyes of teenager Jane. She once dreamed of becoming a teacher but now faces incarceration, forced marches, starvation, disease, and other horrors.
