You don’t have to convince educators of the importance of positive behavior. Study after study has shown that when you encourage positive behavior supports (PBS) in school, you get positive results. For instance, a study in the Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions studied more than 100 elementary schools from 2002 to 2006. They found that you’ll get improved social skills, decreased behavior problems and even higher test scores through a PBS-type program.
“This is the foundation of building the kind of culture I want in my classroom,” says Jodi Bisson, a second grade teacher in Maine. “I find that when you focus more on the positive behavior, then students will almost always conform to what is expected.”
While there’s a big emphasis placed on positive behavior at the start of every school year, it’s important to encourage it year-round. One of the easiest ways to do this is through posters.
