Ahhhhh!  It’s almost Spring Break and you probably have big plans to relax, refresh and take a break from the busy school year.  But, as we all know, even the best laid plans go awry when we’re faced with an all-too-quick break in an all-too-busy schedule.

What You Plan on Doing:  Reading and annotating that highly proclaimed book about testing etiquette in a twenty-first century learning environment.

What You Will Really Do:  Devouring three Gillian Flynn novels back to back.

*****
What You Plan on Doing:  Catching up on your sleep.

What You Will Really Do:  Waking up at o’dark o’clock every day because your internal alarm clock doesn’t have an off switch.

*****
What You Plan on Doing:  Filling your freezer with healthy meals to use during the busy school weeks to come.

What You Will Really Do:   Ordering pizza.  Every night.

*****
What You Plan on Doing:  Not even thinking of your students even once during the break.

What You Will Really Do:  Obsessively checking Facebook to see if any of your students’ parents posted photos of your kids.  Oh, aren’t they so cute when they’re playing “school” at home?

*****
What You Plan on Doing:  Donning those dusty yoga pants and actually doing yoga.

What You Will Really Do:  Donning your now-crusty yoga pants for four days in a row.

*****
What You Plan on Doing:  Writing your lesson plans for the rest of the school year so you can coast through May.

What You Will Really Do:  Writing your lesson plans for the rest of the school year while fully knowing it will in no way enable you to coast for even a day.

*****
What You Plan on Doing:  Planning an actual vacation with sunshine and umbrella-clad drinks for summer.

What You Will Really Do: Decide that putting a straw in your diet coke and kicking back in the quiet feels like a pretty darn good vacation indeed.

*****
What You Plan on Doing: Organizing your entire house.

What You Will Really Do: Organizing your toothpaste drawer before realizing that sometimes the chaos of a mess is soothing.  At least that’s what your students try to tell you.

*****
What You Plan on Doing: Come back refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to see your students.

What You Will Really Do:Come back somewhat refreshed, a little rejuvenated and completely ready to see those adorable shining faces.
