We already know that kids love the chance to get their hands on the classroom iPad tablets. So this time for our Pick of the Week, we have fished (pun intended) through many a learning app for kids, and we think 3rd Grade Splash Math is a good catch.

3rd Grade Splash Math

Why we love it: Splash Math’s app software for grade three includes comprehensive math skills for the grade level, including 16 chapters that cover over 200 math skills. Rather than offering video games with a smattering of math questions, the app is a true math workbook cleverly embellished with bright colors and engaging graphics.

Favorite features:

  • Teachers receive regular updates that track each student’s individual progress. You can receive weekly emails, or you can log in and view student profiles and progress.
  • Learning is personalized. Kids begin on easy levels and based upon their personal performance, medium and hard levels are gradually introduced.
  • Problem areas receive focus. The app tracks where kids need the most help and will introduce those areas with frequency.
  • Fun incentives. The more students practice math, the more creatures they earn for their virtual aquariums for pure, Club Penguin–esque play.

Options:
We recommend starting with the free version and then upgrading to the $9.99 full version if it is a hit in your class. Individual in-app purchases you will be offered in the free version cover specific practice areas and cost 99 cents each. But note that these options are already included in the full version if you upgrade later.

Best for:
Rising or current third grader
