Teachers Swear By These 8 Education Podcasts

And for good reason.

I’m a huge fan of podcasts. Right now in my queue, I have one on a fiber diet-turned-legal drama, a deep dive into the Mom Internet, and a fresh take on the Donner party.

What can I say? I contain multitudes.

Like many teachers, I left the universe of education podcasts unexplored for a long time. The idea of sitting through more teacher-talk after a long workday seemed like more professional development without the credit.

And I bet a lot of education podcasts can feel that way. But not these.

From readers’ suggestions, we’ve curated a list of teacher podcasts that are everything but hokey, dry, or fake. Give these a listen and prepare to laugh, be inspired, and have your teacher mind blown wide open.

The premise: It’s easy to see a child’s education as a path determined by grades, test scores, and extracurricular activities. But genuine learning is about so much more than the points schools tally. MindShift explores the future of learning and how we raise our kids.

A promising review: “This podcast adds so much to my life, I don’t know how I survived before it. Short, yet tells a complete story that is well researched and captivating. As a parent, this expands my view so wildly, and for that I am appreciative.”

Too Dope Teachers and a Mic

The premise: Race, power, and education have always mingled since the foundation of this country, but Kevin and Gerardo seek to remix the conversation about it.

A promising review: “Love Too Dope Teachers and a Mic! Kevin and Gerardo bring conversations about education through a critical lens, with deep experience as male teachers of color in a world where that makes you (unfortunately) a bit of a unicorn. Keep up the great work, fellas! And to everyone out there, subscribe now. You won’t be disappointed.”

Another promising review: “I know you’re tired from teaching all day and you aren’t sure if you want to listen to a teaching podcast. You do. These guys are intersectional, obviously care about others, and have amazing guests. I’m a white teacher looking for how to be better, and these guys deliver.”

The premise: Two U.K. teachers—who are also brothers—share funny stories from the classroom.

A promising review: “These two brothers make me laugh so hard. I feel like they could be a part of my own family. You don’t have to be a teacher to relate to their stories and enjoy the descriptions of the characters and kids they encounter. Best of all, they clearly enjoy kids and seriously respect individual differences while not taking themselves too seriously.”
