More

When we asked our community of WeAreTeachers educators how many hours of training they received for online teaching, many answered with zero. Fortunately, there are free professional development options that will help you fill the gap, including the following Envision by WorldStrides courses. Envision’s courses were designed to provide you with tips and tricks to enhance teaching in the COVID-19 world of online and blended education models. They’re all asynchronous, so you can complete them at your convenience and earn free CEUs. That makes this PD a big winner in our book. Here are the courses that we recommend:

Best Practices in Online Education

This is a great one-hour class for anyone in a distance learning model. You’ll learn key management skills and on-camera instructional strategies, as well as how to implement smorgasbord learning and give and get feedback.

Best Practices in Student Engagement

How do you keep kids engaged in online learning? This course covers best practices, including setting expectations, creating student buy-in, and encouraging communication.

STEM @ Home Series

Whether you choose The Challenge (grades 2-6) or Scratch Coding (grades 5-9), you’ll leave with the lesson plans, grading rubrics, and background knowledge you need to facilitate a hands-on STEM assignment for your students either live in the classroom or online.

Leadership Theory and Practice

While not explicitly about online education, this course is great for any educator interested in learning the fundamental theories of leadership and applying it to their personal development and that of their students.

Dimensions of Diversity: Racial Equity & Allyship in Education

This course is so timely and so needed. Learn strategies to implement meaningful changes to support your students, including creating brave spaces, having courageous conversations, and combatting microaggressions.
