Everyone knows Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November, but what about some of those lesser-known holidays? We pulled together some of our favorite special days for November that teachers and students would especially appreciate. Have fun celebrating!
November 4 is King Tut Day.
It’s a good day to celebrate archaeology and the discovery of King Tutankhamen’s tomb. Here are some fun King Tut facts to get you started.
November 6 is National Saxophone Day.
If you have a band at your school, this is the day to pay tribute to the sax players. Maybe they’ll play a song for your class or school!

November 8 is National STEM/STEAM Day.
With so much emphasis put on STEM and STEAM, this is a day you’ll want to celebrate! Here’s an overview explaining STEM. And here are some great STEM books to check out for your classroom as well.
November 10 is Sesame Street Day.
Everyone seems to have a favorite Sesame Street character. On this day, maybe choose one of your favorite segments to play in class. There are so many great options to choose from on YouTube. Here’s Cookie Monster singing “C Is for Cookie.”

November 11 is Origami Day.
Put your students’ origami skills to the test. Here’s an article with several great (and free) templates to save and print. Many of the projects fit in perfectly with STEM lessons.
November 13 is World Kindness Day.
WeAreTeachers loves celebrating this day, and we hope you and your students do, too. Here are some free kindness posters you can save, print, and put up in the hallways of your school. You might also check out some of our favorite books on kindness.
November 15 is America Recycles Day.
This is another great holiday to celebrate with your students. Check out these recycling videos to get you started. You can also try out these free recycling writing prompts.
November 17 is Take a Hike Day.
If you’re able to get your students outside on or around this day, then kudos to you! Students love having a break in the day, and going outside to observe the world is a good way to do this. If you don’t have students on this day, then take a hike for yourself. Sometimes it’s just what you need for a recharge!
November 18 is Mickey Mouse’s birthday.
This is the day that Mickey Mouse was first introduced to the world. You can find the original Steamboat Willie on Disney’s website, but warning: Your students might not be impressed.
November 24 is Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day.
This is such a good day to highlight in the classroom! Encourage students to really think outside of the box and share or journal about their unique talents. These should be celebrated just as much as being good at sports, music, and all those other more standard talents that are recognized.
November 27 is Giving Tuesday.
While giving Tuesday is typically a day for adults to donate to nonprofits, it can also just be another good day to promote giving and kindness in your classroom. Encourage your students to give compliments on a Post-it or send positive messages to your school’s support staff. Here are some thank-you cards to help you out with that one.
November 28 is French Toast Day.
If your school cafeteria has French Toast Day, then you already know how popular it is. Breakfast for lunch is a great concept, and we hope your school agrees!
