Julia Kennedy Jayes  This video on Google's new "social search" function is interesting. Yet another way to expand your reach and community. Have any of you used it yet?

Julia Kennedy Jayes  Great opportunity for Texas teachers, through the Chihuahaun Desert Research Center: We've teamed up with the Welder Wildlife Foundation and the Texas Tech Llano River Field Station to offer a great, 9-day workshop for teachers. The workshop is supported by the Dixon Water Foundation and the Harvey Weil Foundation, so the total cost to the teacher is only $250. That includes instructors fees, materials, meals, and housing for 9 days of the workshop. What a bargain! During the workshop, teachers will explore the natural resources and conservation issues associated with four ecological regions of Texas: the northern Chihuahuan Desert, the Edwards Plateau, the Gulf Coast marshes, and the south Texas Plains. The application deadline is March 1st, so if you know of a teacher that might be interested in participating, please forward this message to them right away. For more information and to apply, go to the Boone and Crockett Club website (www.booneandcrockettclub.com), and look under education programs for "CAB TX".

The PCI Reading Program
is a research-based curriculum created specifically to teach students with developmental disabilities, autism, and significant learning disabilities how to read. Levels One and Two teach 280 sight words and "real-world" nouns and verbs through a comprehensive system of repetition, "hands-on" practice, controlled-vocabulary reading, and high-interest activities. Non-readers become successful readers word by word, reading 42 engaging, full-color books along the way.

Environmental Print Series
is a comprehensive, standards-based language arts curriculum for students with significant cognitive disabilities. Fully scripted, the program integrates forms of environmental print such as road signs and indoor signs into the story lines of books about adolescent characters. It includes a wide variety of manipulatives that allow students to demonstrate comprehension and content mastery.

Academic Curriculum Framework
is a comprehensive K–12+ program that horizontally and vertically aligns content area and application skills for students with moderate to severe disabilities. Developed by a team of educators experienced in special education, speech pathology, occupational therapy, and physical therapy, the curriculum framework provides a developmentally sequenced progression of skills that can be implemented district-wide. Easy-to-follow visuals show the sequence in which skills naturally develop in five key content areas.

It’s hard for me, Kristi Lindsay, to believe that I have worked in education and education publishing for over fifteen years. After being state certified in two secondary areas, English and history, I also received my elementary and ESL certifications. I taught two and a half years in a multicultural and economically diverse school district [...]
