Welcome!
Help
Welcome! I'm so glad you've found me here!

Thank you for visiting my We Are Teachers' page.  I've been an art educator all my life it seems, starting as a visual artist/instructor at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston under Ann Bunn and Janet Fox in 1978.  I've worked with all age groups from three year olds to senior citizens.  In 1992 I begin teaching in public school.  Currently I teach art to Pre-Kinders through fifth grade at De Zavala Elementary School.

Keep an eye on my page.  The best is yet to come.

No Time For This
Tags: apple, flipcamera, macbook, video

It's late Monday, Memorial Day, evening.  I've been trying to figure how to make my MacBook and the video upload on here get along.

I really love iMovie, what little I know of it, but I can't seem to make it do what I want.  Hmmmm . . . .

Think I'll go check it out with some friends later this week.    I'm tired and I need sleep to be able to keep up with the Pre-Ks tomorrow.

Under Construction - Summer Dreams
Tags: art, grant proposal, knit together, knitting, summer of 2009

As I work towards the end of school I'm holding my breath, waiting to get to work on a variety of projects. One of them is Knit Together.

You can find out more about Knit Together on the ballot for the Summer of Learning WeAreTeachers Microgrant or you can read on.

I learned to knit as a child, sort of.  I didn't learn to cast on and I didn't learn to bind off.  This led to knitting long, irregular, somewhat rectangular pieces that rapidly unraveled once removed from the needles.

I relearned knitting, including casting on and binding off, from my good friend, Luisa Costantini, in 2003.  I begin to teach knitting to my elementary school students and at my local yarn shop the following year.  At the same time I begin to contemplate creating a knitting program for my students and their parents.

This summer I'll be laying the groundwork to make this plan a reality.  You can help out.  All you need to do is go to the ballot for the Summer of Learning WeAreTeachers Microgrant and vote for my project, Knit Together.

No matter what, I'll be working this summer, grant or not.

Check back here to see how it's going.
