As I work towards the end of school I'm holding my breath, waiting to get to work on a variety of projects. One of them is Knit Together.
You can find out more about Knit Together on the ballot for the Summer of Learning WeAreTeachers Microgrant or you can read on.
I learned to knit as a child, sort of. I didn't learn to cast on and I didn't learn to bind off. This led to knitting long, irregular, somewhat rectangular pieces that rapidly unraveled once removed from the needles.
I relearned knitting, including casting on and binding off, from my good friend, Luisa Costantini, in 2003. I begin to teach knitting to my elementary school students and at my local yarn shop the following year. At the same time I begin to contemplate creating a knitting program for my students and their parents.
This summer I'll be laying the groundwork to make this plan a reality. You can help out. All you need to do is go to the ballot for the Summer of Learning WeAreTeachers Microgrant and vote for my project, Knit Together.
No matter what, I'll be working this summer, grant or not.
Check back here to see how it's going.
