Fund for Teachers is the national, donor-supported organization celebrating its tenth year of awarding fellowships for self-designed professional growth to teachers who recognize the value of inquiry, the power of knowledge and their ability to make a difference. To date, approximately 3,500 of America’s top teachers (or “Fellows”) have closed their classroom doors and embarked on summer odysseys that transform learning for themselves, their students and their school communities.
The 2010 grant cycle opens on October 1 and teachers may apply online at www.fundforteachers.org. Geographical boundaries and subject areas are limitless as Fund for Teachers invites educators to dream big and submit proposals detailing their life- and career-changing plans. In 2009 alone, Fellows’ experiences encompass conferences, festivals, workshops, independent and group tours and volunteer projects in 54 countries on six continents.
Fund for Teachers grants, totaling more than $12.5 million over the past decade, are awarded to teachers with at least three years of experience working with students from Pre-K - 12th grade in eligible locations. Grant distribution is based on application quality and merit, as judged by a committee.
