I would like to use leveled libraries for all reading ranges from 1st to 4th grade. I think if I had the books sorted by reading ranges and at least 2 copies of each book, I could pair students up and they could buddy read and use buddy response journals to document their understanding of the text. When they finish the book, they could present to the class in a variety of ways--a book review, a PowerPoint presentation, a Reader\'s Theater, a short skit, a brochure advertising the book, etc.
They will be practicing independent reading while having the scaffolding support of a peer. They will also be practicing their reading strategies and their writing skills while they respond to the book. Finally they will be learning how to work cooperatively with a partner and then practice their speaking skills when they present to the class.

I believe that the way to help students become better readers is by having them read. I also think that by having the opportunity to present to the class, students will become motivated to really understand their book and how to discuss reading materials with others.
