A thoughtful understanding of citizenship and civic life is one of the goals we have for all of our students as they move on toward college and the workplace. These six engaging classroom projects are ones students will remember and take in to their adult lives. Congratulations to these winners!

Contest Details

Write a synopsis of your favorite idea, project or lesson that actively engages your students in learning about civics and their own role in a civic society. If you can, attach a relevant classroom photo, video or pdf (such as a video of your idea in action or reproducible lesson plan.)

How It Works
  1. Submit your favorite idea or activity for teaching civics!
  2. Check the box indicating whether you are willing and able to go to NCSS 2013 in St. Louis. Teachers who cannot attend are still eligible for the Merit prizes.
  3. A WeAreTeachers and Pearson Merit Judging Panel will review entries and select winners. Winners will be announced October 16, 2013.
Prize Package
  • 3 Grand-prize winners each receive:
    A trip to the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Nov. 22-24, 2013. Includes airfare, 2 nights’ accommodation, meals and full conference registration fee. (Approximate value $1,500)
  • 3 Merit Prize winners each receive
    A 15GB iPad mini ($329 value) and $50 in Pearson resources.
