Welcome to your brand new WeAreTeachers website! We're kicking off back-to-school 2012 with an open house celebration in honor of you: the teachers who make our community a vibrant place of sharing and learning. We've made some exciting new updates to our online home that we are thrilled to share with you…and, in fact, many of these updates grew from seeds planted by our own community members’ suggestions and ideas. Please explore and share, and remember to bookmark this site because during the next few weeks, we'll be rolling out additional features and content that we don’t want you to miss. (We'd love to hear your ideas on how to make this site even more exceptional for you, too.)
We’ve changed our security settings along with our decor. If you're already a member, you'll need to reset your password. Our members' profile images did not make the transition to the new site, so it's time to show off that new haircut and your best smile and upload a new profile picture. If you're new to WeAreTeachers, take a moment to register here (it's easy and free).
Those using browsers older than IE8 may experience some problems with our new interface; if possible, upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer or download a free browser such as Firefox or Chrome.
Each month, we'll now be featuring two hot topics, giving
you more practical ideas that you can use in your classroom right away. Topics in Education features timely and relevant content on the issues that matter most in education, while What We're Teaching This Month offers fresh, seasonal suggestions to invigorate your curriculum.
Hot Topics also features WATcasts (interviews with educators and experts on a variety of compelling subjects) and an up-to-the-minute news feed. Soon, we will also launch Special Reports, so be on the lookout for a round-up of the best educational apps, a knowledge hub on nutrition and fitness, and a collection of the teacher-reviewed products and services for project-based learning.
Grants & Contests
In the spirit with which WeAreTeachers was founded in 2007, we remain committed to giving back to teachers in any way possible. With the support of our sponsors, we’ll be featuring new grants, contests, and sweepstakes every month—with lots of opportunities to win cash and prizes for yourselves and your students. Check out our current contests now!
New Voting Process on Grants
We listened to the suggestions of our community members and altered our voting process; all entrants will now be reviewed by a panel of educators and the best entries will be selected as merit finalists. Those top ideas will then be opened up to community voting. This process ensures that the best ideas rise to the top and that entrants are recognized for their hard work. We’re also working on ways to make the best of the best ideas on the site more visible and easy to find.
We’re excited to share with you our new, improved, and rapidly-growing Education Directories—soon to become a powerful one-stop source of information on anything pertaining to education. We’re launching with Education Companies & Products, Back-to-School Promotions, and Top Edu-Bloggers. We’ll soon be adding more comprehensive directories including:
● Teacher Rewards & Discounts offered by stores nationwide, to help you save money.
● National and regional education conferences, all in one easy place to search and add to your calendar.
● Graduate programs catering to educators, with details and links so you can pursue the courses that are right for you.
Community & Blogs
Our teacher forums are on a temporary hiatus, but our blogs are active and welcome your comments! We now feature four blogs to meet all your teaching needs:
The WeAreTeachers Blog: Curriculum ideas, favorite
resources, teaching tips, and more, from the WeAreTeachers editorial team as well as some of our favorite guest bloggers.
Book Club: Read our reviews on new and classic children’s titles for your classroom library--and personal reading pleasure.
Teacher’s Lounge: If you’re in the mood for a laugh or an inspirational pick-me-up, drop in and take a break…we’ve got infographics and posters that you’ll want to print and post on the walls of your own teacher’s lounge!
Teacher Gear We Love: We scour the Internet for the most useful, fun, and must-have gear for the busy teacher, so that you don’t have to leave your desk to get the gear you need.
There’s much more (not to mention all the additional features and content we can’t wait to unveil), but we know you’re busy, so happy browsing! If you encounter any issues while on the site or just want to drop us a line, please click here to contact us, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for being the “we” in WeAreTeachers!
